Manuka Royale is harvested from the wildest and most pristine areas of New Zealand where the soil mineral content is densest. We get off the beaten track and go to places that sometimes not even named on the map.
Honey is produced from the work of honey bees (Apis mellifera) that collect the nectar from the flowers, remove the water and add enzymes, changing the sugar content of the nectar and forming acids.
Honey produced mainly form the nectar of one plant is called mono floral. Manuka honey is produced form the nectar of the manuka plant, Leptospermum scoparium, commonly called in Maori mānuka.
The manuka tree grows exclusively as a bush (2-6m height) in New Zealand and east Australia. The flowers bloom only for short period of time (6 weeks circa) between September and March.
Manuka honey differs from other honey types for its organoleptic properties: brown and creamy with a unique, slightly bitter taste, which remembers the earth and minerals.
Even though these characteristics are peculiar to manuka honey, they are not what make it so special. For years long scientist all over the world have studied the compounds present in the honey, trying to understand why the manuka honey had such special properties. In 2008 they could finally prove that manuka honey contains all the typical compounds of other honeys but also had a special bioactive one, not found in any other honey type: the Methylglyoxal (MGO) responsible of the non-peroxide activity of manuka honey. This compounds is not present in the nectar of the manuka tree but forms during the maturation of the honey from the dehydration of another compound, the Dihydroxiacetone (DHA).
Studies have shown that there is a direct correlation between the MGO levels in the honey and its properties: the higher the MGO, the better the properties.
Manuka Royale is a manuka honey brand sourced, produced and shipped from New Zealand, sharing a natural source of power, healing and sweetness with the world.
Manuka Royale is rich naturally occurring bio-active nutrients – special elements found in the Manuka honey which go beyong the basic nutritional value into areas of wellness enhancement. The higher levels of the bio-active compounds in the Manuka flowers that the bees make honey from elevate the honey’s nutritional and nourishment qualities.
Unique Manuka Factor (UMF) is the gold standard in Manuka honey – it is shorthand for the most comprehensive, independently certified and internationally recognized quality assurance system for New Zealand Manuka honey. Most importantly it validates the UMF potency of the honey.
The UMF™ grading system ensures that all three signature compounds – methylglyoxal (MGO), dihydroxyacetone (DHA), leptonsperin – must be present in order for the Manuka honey to be graded UMF™

Our career in athletics that had taken us to the Olympics has ingrained in us the zeal to strive for the higest level. We wanted to transform all our energy into a healthy, life-improving product that would positively impact the planet, the local communities and our customers. Manuka honey therefores was the ideal starting point.
It’s the only food that is producted without killing any other plant or animal. We sourced the highest grade UMF certified honey from small local farms in the wild pristine areas.
This was just the starting point. From this foundation we then looked at the whole supply chain for opportunities to reduce our carbon footprint on the environment. The production of manuka honey is generally a low-carbon non-polluting process, and living around the small bee-keeping communities helped us to reduce this further.
Manuka Royale is minimally processed to preserve the natural bioactive compounds and beneficial enzymes, which are depleted by heating.
